Ontario invests in new electric and hybrid vehicle parts manufacturing

Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development, Employment, and Infrastructure has announced it is partnering with Mitsui High-tec to build the company's first manufacturing facility in North America and the first facility in Ontario producing motor cores for electric and hybrid vehicles.

Ontario will invest up to $2 million through the Jobs and Prosperity Fund to support the new facility in Brantford, leveraging an overall project investment of about $38 million. The greenfield facility, expected to begin production in early 2017, will create 48 highly skilled jobs.

Initially the plant will export the motor cores for electric and hybrid vehicles to customers in the U.S.; longer-term plans are to grow the company's market share with Ontario-based vehicle assembly plants as well.
