Canadore opens ICAMP 2.0 manufacturing facility

Canadore College, North Bay, Ont., has opened the ICAMP 2.0 facility, an expansion of its original Innovation Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Production (ICAMP).

Plans for this facility were announced last summer in response to strong industry demand. The first phase of the centre focused on business development and expansion, allowing companies to conceptualize, design, prototype, and improve or test new products for the commercial marketplace.

The college purchased an industrial EOS M 290 3-D additive manufacturing machine; YuMi®, a collaborative, dual-arm, small-parts assembly robot; design simulation software; advanced visualization, productivity, and project management tools; and other equipment to supplement its current technologies.

Since ICAMP was opened in 2013, more than 200 companies have shown an interest in using the facility to develop or refine new products and processes for more than 166 projects. The facility is most frequently used for applied research and R&D initiatives, as well as technological equipment and services.

The centre has also helped industry create and maintain 107 jobs in the region’s economy.
