5-axis VMC creates prismatic parts

Doosan has introduced the DNM 200/5AX 5-axis vertical machining center (VMC). This newest member of the DNM series is suitable for machining complex prismatic parts by reducing setup time and ensuring consistent accuracy without taking up too much valuable space on the shop floor.

The machine has a built-in 4th and 5th axis trunnion table, which enables the machining of multiple faces on complex prismatic workpieces without having to refixture.

The platter size is 7.87 in. diameter, allowing for a maximum workpiece size of 11.81 in. dia. and 7.87 in. high. Maximum table load is 88 lbs.

The linear guideways have roller-type bearings.

The direct-coupled spindle drive system is a cartridge-type unit supported by high-precision ceramic ball bearings that create minimal noise, vibration, and thermal growth because of the absence of gears or belts inside the spindle head body.

 The machine’s 12,000-RPM, 15/25-HP motor has 86 ft.-lbs. of torque with spindle acc\dec time of 0 to 12,000 (2.16 sec.) and 12,000 to 0 (2.21 sec.).

The bed is a rigid, one-piece casting made from fine-grain Meehanite® cast iron with heavy ribbing to help prevent vibration and deformation during heavy cutting.
