Ramping cutter processes aluminum

Walter has introduced the M2131 Sky·tec™ ramping cutter for the machining of nonferrous metals such as aluminum wrought alloys and aluminum lithium alloys.

The cutter allows shorter machining time because of its high metal removal rate and increases tool life by reducing built-up edge (BUE), the company states.

The tool has a V-shaped cutting edge and can be used for rough milling and semifinishing of pockets with high chip volume.

This 90-degree shoulder milling cutter with ramping capability has a maximum cutting depth of 0.59 in. or 0.78 in. and diameters between 0.98 and 3.14 in.

It has two sizes of indexable inserts with various corner radii and employs the company’s WNN15 milling grade. It also has integral cooling for MQL or emulsion.
