Leifeld WXC Flex produces rims with the flow forming process

Leifeld Metal Spinning GmbH has developed the WSC Flex for manufacturing rims with a flow forming process. The machine uses rollers to shape the inside and outside surfaces. The process works without tools, so the user can make product changes seamlessly without having to perform setup changes, allowing for lot sizes of one.
The technology is especially suitable for manufacturing aluminum wheels, as it can form vehicle rims from cast aluminum so that they are lighter than conventional wheels. In addition, the flow forming process improves the material’s grain structure, which increases the final rim strength after heat treatment, says the company.
