CIM Tech Summit Offers New Info, Networking and supports CIMA Apprentice Bursary Award Program

Industry leaders will share technology advancements and strides in trades training during the 3rd annual CIM Technology Summit on May 28 in Cambridge, Ont.
Speakers will include Ray Buxton, general manager at Mazak Canada, and Ronnie O’Byrne, general manager at ISCAR Canada, who will present their companies’ latest advancements in equipment and tooling. Randy McDonald, manufacturing operations at Canada’s Memex Automation Inc., will discuss realtime industrial machine monitoring and control technology.
Robert Cattle, executive director of CTMA (Canadian Tooling and Machining Association), will review the successful beginning of the Introductory Trades Training Program. The program, geared at youth aged 18 to 29, combines four weeks of in-class training at Valiant Training & Development Centre in Windsor, Ont., with shop floor training provided by participating companies. Funding to assist with the shop floor training is also provided as part of the program.
Attendees are invited to tour VeriForm Inc. in Cambridge, an ISO 50001-certified company that produces precision sheet and plate components. ISO 50001 is a standard specifying requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and constantly improving energy management systems.
Mazak Canada is hosting and sponsoring the 2015 CIM Summit at its new Cambridge Headquarters and Technology Centre, ISCAR and Sandvik Coromant are cosponsors.
CIM’s educational affiliate, the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International, is coordinating the event.
The $50 registration fee will benefit the CTMA Apprentice Bursary Program. Go to www.fmanet.org/cim to register.
Attendees are invited to combine networking and relaxation at the Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo, Ont., scheduled for May 29. Cost of the golf outing is $100.
