$9.4M H2O system headed for oil sands

QUEBEC CITY—H2O Innovation Inc. has won a $9.4 million contract for the Fort Hills Oil Sands Project operated by Suncor Energy in northern Alberta.

The Quebec-based water treatment technology company will design, manufacture and install a water treatment system to provide potable water for up to 5,000 workers at the Fort Hills project.

The system will haul water from the Athabasca river and flush it through membrane filtration and UV treatments.

The oilsands project is under development 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alta.

The contract brings H2O Innovation's sales backlog to a record $29.2 million, the company said.

The treatment system is expected to be delivered by mid-2013, says Guillaume Ducharme, director of communications at H2O Innovation.
