New funding for software, machine training

TORONTO—The Ontario government is providing $900,000 in funding for advanced software training in the province’s machine, tool, die and mould manufacturers sector.

The funding will help the Canadian Tooling & Machining Association (CTMA) provide computer-aided design and manufacturing software training to members.

“This collaboration is going to help ensure 140 companies are better able to meet the demands of the auto sector and other key markets,” said Sandra Pupatello, Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Trade.

Les Payne, CTMA Executive Director says the first government investment directly leveraged more than 1.6-million from the companies involved.

“One company alone purchased a new 5-Axis Machining Centre in response to the increased skills of their employees. At a minimum cost of $500,000 this was quite an investment by the shop involved.”
