On Nov. 18, 2015, the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering held its annual Industry Partners Reception to thank existing collaborators for their support, guidance, and enthusiasm for the research and education that takes place at the school’s engineering department.
For this year’s event, the Toronto Institute of Advanced Manufacturing (TIAM) was honored to have the opportunity to highlight the work and collaborations that it has been doing since its inception in 2013.
“The manufacturing sector is a hub for major and vital economic growth for the country, especially here in southern Ontario. Our mission is to strengthen and lead in these areas, not only in Ontario, but also across Canada and the world, knowing that we have the expertise and the infrastructure to do so,” said Professor Hani Naguib, director of TIAM.
Brad Jackson, vice president of strategic business development at Celestica, was also present as the keynote industry speaker for the event. Celestica has a 15-year partnership with the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering and is a key partner for TIAM, given its position within the manufacturing sector in the province.
In 2013-2014, the school of engineering attracted more than $80 million in external research funding, with nearly $8 million coming from industry partners. This event was a way to acknowledge these strong partnerships.
