Numerik Jena’s Kit R rotary optical encoder, available from Heidenhain Corp., is suitable for motion feedback applications in which installation space is limited. The scanning unit has a very low height profile of only 0.14 in. The lightweight aluminum graduation carrier disk is 0.02 in. thick.
The encoder disks have a variety of line counts based on many OD and ID sizes, each including a reference mark. The disk must be mounted to a hub via a gluing process. The aluminum disks are coated to help prevent damage from contamination and increase robustness of the encoder system.
