Wire EDM enables submerged rethreading

At IMTS 2016, Absolute Machine Tools will showcase the AccuteX Great Economy (GE) wire EDM machine, which features automatic wire threading (AWT) that enables submerged rethreading at the break point.

When wire breakage occurs, rethreading takes place without dielectric drainage/refilling, resulting in spark-to-spark times as low as 15 seconds. An air-driven wire removal system disposes of waste wire of any length.

Cutting speeds of 33.5 in.2/hour are possible using 0.012-in. high-speed wire with a digital AC power supply facilitating high-speed, electrolysis-free machining.

The machine’s controller features Automatic Corner Control that analyzes cutting data, wire diameter, cutting angle, and workpiece thickness to automatically determine parameters to maintain the best corner cutting performance in both roughing and finishing operations.

A 6-axis controller includes Z-axis positioning and 5-axis simultaneous interpolation, enabling any “turn and burn” application. A rotary table and controller can be applied to both vertical and horizontal applications.
