Heidenhain has released the Acu-Rite TURNPWR control, a workshop-oriented turning control that enables the user to program conventional machining operations right at the machine in conversational programming language. It is designed for turning machine tools with up to two axes.
The control was developed for lathe machinists that need both manual and automated operation.
The Acu-Rite conversational programming format for controls is included in the control, but G-code (ISO) programming also can be used. Basic editing of G-code programs also is possible.
A 12.1-in. high-resolution display has a screen layout that is clearly arranged and user-friendly, the company states. Preview graphics in the editor illustrate the individual machining steps for programming the contour as well as corresponding toolpath generated using only dimensions pulled from a production drawing. It also accepts DXF files.
The control is a closed-loop system with positioning feedback provided by rotary encoders inside the motor assemblies. When fitted with optional precision glass scales of 0.00005-in. resolution, the control also includes Position-Trac, an advanced, unique feature that enables users to accurately re-establish workpiece zero after shutting down or power loss.
