BMW Group to open Additive Manufacturing Campus

The BMW Group is planning to invest more than $12.3 million in a new Additive Manufacturing Campus in Oberschleissheim, Germany. The facility will concentrate the company’s 3-D printing capabilities at a single location.

The campus will foster the latest technologies in this field and make them available for use within the company’s production network. Much of the work carried out there will focus on parts manufacturing for prototype construction, series production, and custom work. The facility also will act as an interdisciplinary training and project area, for instance for development engineers. Accommodating up to 80 associates and more than 30 industrial systems for metals and plastics, the plant is scheduled to go on-stream in early 2019.
