Doosan Machine Tools America's Puma 1000/M turning centre handles large-diameter parts

Doosan Machine Tools America has introduced the Puma 1000/M turning centre, which incorporates a live tool turret to aid the machining of large rings, flanges, shafts, and pipes.

The working area of the machine enables a maximum machining diameter of 39 in. and a maximum machining length of 80 in. The spindle through-hole of up to 22 in. enables the processing of long pipes and rods required for offshore plants and oil exploration.

The machine is equipped with a two-stage gearbox featuring a high-output spindle with a maximum output of 100 HP. It also is equipped with a 10-in.-thick turret with a more robust design than the previous model. The use of a servomotor for the turret reduces vibration during turning and milling, maximizing stability during heavy-duty cutting, the company states.

A programmable tailstock with a built-in dead centre, user-friendly Easy Operation Package (EOP) smart software program, and EZ functions are standard features. Another standard feature is arbitrary speed threading, which allows the operator to change the speed during the threading cuts to eliminate chatter. Additional options include twin chucking, vibration damping, long boring bar, automatic tool setter, and a linear scale.
