EFD Induction has introduced silicon carbide transistors in some of its high-frequency, solid-state welding machines.
The IGBT transistor still is the main power transistor with high-current capability, also in the solid-state Weldac tube and pipe welding machines. The Weldac systems offer power outputs from 50 to 2,200 kW and frequencies of 90 to 500 kHz.
The new SiC transistors are offered as an alternative in certain high-frequency welding machines that are suitable for smaller pipes with which impeder size is limited.
