GM Canada Investing $13M at St. Catharines Powertrain

GM Canada, Oshawa, Ont., will invest $13 million in its St. Catharines, Ont., powertrain facility to enable the plant to produce more variants of the 3.6L V6 engine currently being built at the plant. Future production volumes will be determined through market demand and ongoing discussions with Unifor.

“This new investment in our St. Catharines powertrain facility will provide us with more options and capability for the future. It’s another example of how GM is living up to its commitments and building solid capability for the future in Canada,” said Stephen Carlisle, president and managing director of General Motors of Canada.

The St. Catharines plant is one of North America’s largest engine and transmission plants. It produces numerous V6 and V8 engines as well as transmissions for GM vehicles.
