MAC’s Echomac phased-array ultrasonic system tests entire weld area

Magnetic Analysis Corp.’s Echomac robotic phased-array ultrasonic NDT system detects weld zone defects in ERW tube caused by scarfing or welding processes. The system scans and tests the entire weld area without the need to change transducer settings when the weld wanders.
Installed in the hot zone near the welder, the test gives immediate feedback on weld quality so corrections can be made to prevent flawed product and ensure tubes are free of weld flash. The system can monitor scarf, evaluate laminar defects, and detect longitudinal OD/ID weld defects, including lack of fusion, pin hole penetrators, hook cracks, and misalignment of the parent material.
If more accurate defect detection is needed, installation can be in the lower-temperature area after forming and shaping.
