For more than 40 years, the Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show (CMTS) audience, which comes from within Canada’s leading industries, has convened to source equipment and gain knowledge from global leaders in machine tools and tooling, metalworking equipment, and advanced manufacturing technology.

Innovation, professionalism, and displays of manufacturing equipment will set the stage for the upcoming CMTS. The show brings together for attendees technology suppliers that will present new equipment, practices, and industry connections.

“SME is very excited to once again be hosting live events in the U.S. and Canada this fall. For our Canadian events, CMTS is our signature flagship event and it has navigated some tough waters, as we all have, these last 18 months. We’re looking forward to bringing the Canadian manufacturing community back together again,” said Julie Pike, senior director, Canadian events and event strategy,SME.

CMTS Set for October

Set for Oct. 4 to 7 at The International Centre, Mississauga, Ont., CMTS is the biggest event of its kind nationwide.

Held every two years, the tradeshow is widely known for being the main manufacturing event in Canada. It provides new networking and interactive experiences for visitors, along with opportunities to attend high-level technical sessions and keynote presentations from industry experts.

Visitors will see the latest in machine tools, tooling, forming, and fabricating technologies, as well as advanced manufacturing including additive manufacturing/3D printing, automation, and robotics.

Attendees will not only be able to witness innovative manufacturing technologies, but also get a hands-on learning experience. Exhibitors will showcase advanced manufacturing such as composites, metals and advanced materials, contract manufacturing services, digital and additive manufacturing/3D printing, integrated assembly, and robotics. Visitors will also get to see the largest side-by-side comparison of live, working equipment in Canada.

“Canadian manufacturers are facing some challenging realities, including supply chain issues that can cause parts shortages. These lead to delays for OEMs and distributors in providing access to new equipment. This year you’ll see us presenting The Best of CMTS, a smaller-footprint event with more than 100 exhibits showcasing the variety of advanced manufacturing technologies that our audience has come to expect,” said Pike.

Learning Experience

While the event displays a large and diverse mix of live technology, real value can be attained by attending one of the show’s many keynotes, relevant panel discussions, and technical sessions.

CMTS 2021

CMTS Live! Digital Experience is a new feature for the 2021 show. It is a digital complement to the in-person event that is available online during the show and after the show for 60 days. SME

“Our thought-leadership lineup offers a power-packed group of leaders from organizations that are helping manufacturers in Canada navigate everything from global supply chain challenges to smart technologies, workforce issues, and more. We’re proud to be presenting The Best of CMTS alongside those who can participate with us this year as we emerge from and navigate out of the pandemic,” Pike added.

Visiting the show allows manufacturing executives to interact and connect with leaders from top government agencies, industry associations, and leading-edge tech companies so they can make the right decisions that help them innovate and grow their businesses with confidence.

“We have everything manufacturing executives need to adapt and thrive, including keynote presentations on geopolitical risks and how to manage them, building a resilient supply chain, and strategic opportunities for Canada’s advanced manufacturing sector, all while networking with industry experts and providing hands-on access to the latest technology,” said Pike.

At The Best of CMTS, manufacturers will personally experience the latest manufacturing technology demonstrations and connect with technical experts who can answer their questions, all while evaluating comparative technology. This helps equip today’s manufacturing professional with that hands-on, in-person experience they need to make better business decisions.

“Without the right connections, growing a business in this fast-paced industry is hard. When manufacturers engage in person, they can share and learn from one another and gain vital industry information that they otherwise couldn't access. While The Best of CMTS will be smaller to the eye, exploring and discovering the topics, the technology, and the people it offers promises to be a valuable investment of your time,” said Pike.

The keynote speeches and industry panels are complimentary with registration.

Keynote and Discussion Highlights

The CMTS keynote speakers and industry panelists are global thought leaders from the highest levels of manufacturing and technology. They’re eager to share their experience and knowledge. You’ll leave these presentations with key takeaways to apply in the development of business strategies and operational plans.

Geopolitical Risks and How to Manage Them

Speaker: Courtney Rickert McCaffrey, insights leader – EY Geostrategic Business GroupErnst & Young LLP

Geopolitics affects every global manufacturing company, from strategy to supply chain. A combination of the COVID-19 pandemic, trade tensions, climate change, and a range of other factors means global levels of political risk are at a multi-year high. But executives don’t have to accept the supply chain disruptions and revenue losses that rising levels of political risk can generate. Results from a recent survey of more than 1,000 global executives show how political risks can be managed more effectively. We’ll explore the key political risks manufacturers face and how they can manage them in today’s volatile global environment.

Building a Resilient Supply Chain: Enabling Speed and Agility to Protect Your Customer and Your Bottom Line

Moderator: Kimberley Hagerty, Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Panelists: Michelle Bockman, 3D Control Systems; Stewart Cramer, NGen; Alejandro Guerrero, Infor

Panelists will outline the features of a resilient supply chain (key capabilities/characteristics), how to identify risk across a global value network, and what is being done to protect customers from a variety of supply chain disruptions.

Companies can no longer wait for an event to occur for supply chain resiliency to be a focus; companies must prepare and build a resilient supply chain now to help protect their customers’ and their bottom line. It does not matter where you start, but companies must begin their continuous journey of innovation, visibility, and risk reduction to enable a resilient supply chain.

Other speeches and panels will feature Mélanie Joly, minister of economic development and official languages; Flavio Volpe, president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association; Jayson Myers, CEO of Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen); and Damien Johnston, vice-president of TELUS Business Solutions.

Digital Experience

SME recognizes the impact of the digital and virtual world, which was further accelerated due to the pandemic, by launching a new R&D initiative that looks to optimize ways to extend the value of its in-person events online with dynamic digital experiences.

The CMTS Live! Digital Experience is a new feature for the 2021 show. It is a digital complement to the in-person event that is available online during the show and after the show for 60 days. CMTS attendees will be able to browse interactive 3D exhibits, view livestreamed keynotes and content online, and network in this interactive, 3D digital environment.

“For this year we’re also pleased to present The Best of CMTS Live! Digital Experience. This online experience offers participants who cannot attend CMTS in person the opportunity to connect online where they can access our keynote and thought-leadership panels, all of which will be livestreamed from the event. In addition, our exhibitors and other technology presentations will also be available on demand to our virtual audience,” said Pike.
