Atlantic XL adds SLM AM system to produce energy industry 3D metal parts in Nfld

Atlantic XL, a St. John's, NL-based provider of EPC and EPCM services to the energy industry, has announced that it will be operating the first commercially available metal 3D printer in Newfoundland and Labrador. The company selected SLM Solutions as their vendor of choice and purchased an SLM 280 machine.

Atlantic XL decided to acquire the additive system due to what it saw as significant supply chain challenges for high-quality metal parts.

"We decided on the SLM 280 because of the open architecture system," said Marty Gaulin, Director of Additive Manufacturing at Atlantic XL. "It gives us the freedom to adapt everything we need. The excellent collaboration with our team and the technically acceptable equipment supported our decision."

According to the company, the new capability will contribute to net zero by reducing the carbon footprint, as well as support supply chain by reducing long lead times, solving part obsolescence, and reducing costs by offering a digital warehouse concept over physical parts storage.
