Makino hosts technology event for jet engine and turbine manufacturers

The event is set to include live cutting demonstrations, and will address the production challenges that come with the machining of precision parts.

MASON, Ohio  Makino has announced they will be holding a special two-day event focused on the manufacturing of components for jet engine and turbine segments in the aerospace and energy industries.

The event, titled "New Technologies for Jet Engine and Turbine Manufacturing" is slated to take place April 16 and 17 at Makino’s Mason, Ohio, technology centre.

“The focus of this event will be on the latest and most innovative manufacturing methods that directly enhance productivity, throughput, quality and overall bottom line,” states Mark Rentschler, marketing manager at Makino.

“Technical presentations and live cutting demonstrations will take place on both days and will address the production challenges faced by jet engine and turbine manufacturers as they machine complex precision parts.“

Adam Steltzner of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., is the featured speaker at the April 16 dinner. As phase lead and development manager for EDL (entry, descent and landing), Steltzner designed, tested and built the sky-crane landing system for the Curiosity rover, which successfully landed on Mars Aug. 5, 2012.
