Manufacturing education event introduces new technology

Sandvik Coromant Canada, Ferro Technique, Renishaw Canada, and Mastercam hosted an educational seminar in August at Ferro’s Mississauga, Ont., facility. A total of 54 attendees took part in the event.

Sandvik Coromant demonstrated its new PrimeTurning™ technology on a Doosan Puma 300MC turning centre. Renishaw set up a probing operation on a Hartford vertical machining centre, and programming experts from Mastercam were present to address any questions about CoroTurn® Prime from a programming and processing perspective using its software.

PrimeTurning allows machine shops to complete longitudinal (forward and back), facing, and profiling operations with a single tool. The methodology is based on the tool entering the component at the chuck and removing material as it travels toward the end of the component. This allows for the application of a small entering angle, higher lead angle, and the possibility of machining with higher cutting parameters. Furthermore, conventional turning (from part-end to chuck) can be performed using the same tools.
