Automatic guided cart follows smart tape that can be repositioned

Handling Specialty has produced a customized automatic guided cart for a truck-body builder that required specific application details and safety options.
The cart uses laser guidance to move along a predetermined path set by smart tape—a series of QR codes printed and laid on the floor. The tape can be pulled up and repositioned as the needs of the facility’s assembly line change.
An emergency stop strip along both sides of the cart can be activated by kicking the rubber. As the cart travels through the assembly line while workers weld and assemble the truck bodies, their feet are free to strike the band if necessary.
Flashing yellow lights indicate which direction the cart is moving. Speeds are built into the tape QR codes and can be customized for any assembly application. A motion sensor at the front of the cart halts the unit upon detection of anyone or anything moving in front of its path.
