Coated CBN grade machines hardened steel

Tungalogy Corp. has introduced the BXA20 grade, which is suitable for roughing and finishing operations, including descaling of case-hardened steel. This cubic boron nitride (CBN) grade provides good wear and fracture resistance in a low to medium cutting speed range, with enhanced tool life in continuous as well as interrupted cuts, the company states.

It is available with a built-in wiper for better surface finishes at high feed rates or a chipbreaker for smooth chip control in large stock removal applications.

The tool’s multilayered PVD coating is twice as thick as the conventional grade to improve wear resistance. The topmost layer of the coating has a very low coefficient of friction to help reduce crater wear, says the manufacturer.

The tool has a bright silver finish to help operators identify used corners.
