Tungaloy PCD-tipped milling inserts machine non-ferrous materials

Tungaloy has introduced PCD-tipped milling inserts with nose radii of 0.008 and 0.016 in. for use with its TungRec 11 square-shoulder milling cutters.

These milling cutters create clean, perpendicular walls and eliminate secondary processes, the company states. In addition to existing coated and uncoated carbide grades, the cutter’s new PCD-tipped inserts produce good surface quality in finish-machining applications in non-ferrous applications.

Optimized for free cutting action, the insert’s PCD cutting edge geometry is designed to provide low cutting forces while producing a perpendicular shoulder.

PCD-tipped inserts enable high-speed milling of non-ferrous materials and still provide long tool life in abrasive, high-silicone-content aluminum alloys. The inserts are offered in DX110, a submicron-grain-sized PCD grade that maintains a sharp cutting edge to produce mirror-like surface finishes.
