Deep-hole Drilling Heads

Iscar-Unitac is upgrading two drilling head families and adding a new family. The two upgraded families are being replaced with two new and more accurate boring heads. DSD-EF is being replaced by DSD ##.##-EFFB and DDD-EF is being replaced by DDD ##.##-EF-FB. DSD ##.##-IF-FB is the new family of drilling heads with internal thread connection.

The tools in all three of these families feature an option of new solidcarbide guide pads and new, more precise inserts, according to the manufacturer. The new peripheral NPHT-RG inserts replace the current NPMT-R2 inserts. To ensure the tool’s precision, the former NPMT-R2 utility inserts cannot be mounted on the peripheral pocket of the new tools as they are not interchangeable.

For the new 25- to 30-mm smalldiameter range, new size NPMT 050503R/L inserts have been added, for the internal position on the new drills.

Features of these tools include:

• Better hole straightness and surface finish
• Higher feed, which increases productivity
• Wider mouth opening for improved chip flow
• Extended diameter range: 25 to 65 mm
• New internal thread heads
• 30 to 50 percent improvement of diameter tolerance
• Tool steel body for high durability
• Precision-ground guide pad for excellent surface finish and good hole straightness
• Sufficient oil clearance to ensure consistent chip shape, efficient chip evacuation, and longer tool life of inserts and guide pads
