Grid encoder tests accuracy of CNC machines

Heidenhain has released the KGM 281 grid encoder for accuracy testing of CNC machines. It is available with a measuring range of Ø 5.5 in. and an increased accuracy of ± 1 µm.
The unit’s grid plate with phase grating has an optical measuring standard. It is embedded in a two-piece aluminum holder designed to prevent mechanical stress from being induced at the level of the measuring standard, even if the mounting surface is not plane.
The grid encoder can be mated to the same dimensions as the previous KGM 181, but with the revised mechanical design, it is 0.85 in. higher.
