Makino adds models to EDGE EDM line

Makino has introduced its next-generation EDGE series electrical discharge machines (EDMs), the EDGE2 and EDGE3.

Built for general precision machining applications, both machines provide accurate and reliable performance for standard die/mold components or contract manufacturing with a space-saving design for shop floors of any size, the company states.

These sinker EDMs feature an integral rise-and-fall work tank designed for unobstructed access to the work zone for setups. The machines include an eight-station ATC to extend unattended operation and support robotic automation for greater unattended operations. The machines are equipped with a flame sensor and fire extinguisher system that are integrated and monitored by the machine control.

The EDGE2 work tank is 25.6 by 17.7 by 11.8 in., while the EDGE3 work tank is 31.5 by 21.7 by by 13.8 in.

Both EDMs feature the company’s SuperSpark4 system that optimizes power discharge levels and jump cycles to help reduce machining time.

The MGH6 control has a 15-in. touchscreen control system and simplified programming using the Makino Program Generator (MPG) function.
