Unifor Canada slams automaker in Super Bowl ad "GM leaves Canadians Out In the Cold”

Unifor is upping its new #SaveOshawaGM campaign by airing an ad during Super Bowl LIII on February 3. The commercial titled “GM leaves Canadians Out In the Cold” is a scathing rebuke of GM Canada's plans to close the Oshawa plant.

The automaker attempted to stop the broadcast, sending a "demand" that Unifor "cease and desist from any further communication of the Advertisement."

Unifor National President Jerry Dias pointed out that Canadians have been loyal to GM for years and the auto manufacturer is leaving hard working Canadians out in the cold.

"Clearly General Motors doesn’t want Canadians to see this ad and the damage that GM plans to inflict on workers, communities and our national economy if it closes Oshawa,” he said.

Dias went on to add that it's Unifor's stance that if GM wants to sell in Canada then it needs to build in Canada and that the union will not be intimidated from sharing that message with Canadians.

The commercial is part of an ongoing effort to persuade GM to reverse its decision to close the Oshawa Assembly while expanding in Mexico. It also calls for consumers to boycott Mexican-made GM vehicles.
