Seaspan to return to Metalworking & Manufacturing Expo in Langley

The Metalworking & Manufacturing Expo (MME), sponsored by Elliott Matsuura Canada, Mazak Canada, Renishaw Canada, and TRUMPF Canada, will take place this year in Langley, B.C., April 10; Winnipeg on April 30; and Saskatoon on May 28.

At this year’s Langley show, representatives from Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards will return as the keynote presenters to offer more insight into their continuing manufacturing excellence journey. Callum Tio, manager, workforce development, will discuss frontline leadership, training middle management, and how to keep good employees. He will tackle the challenge of workforce growth in a tight labour market, and the impact on frontline leadership; the plan the company developed to address this challenge; and the key performance indicators the company uses to determine their success.

Corey Lutes, director of manufacturing, will offer an update on automation investments at the facility: how and where the company uses automation in manufacturing at Seaspan; the challenges of automation; the benefits they have seen in safety, productivity, and quality; where and when it makes sense; employee engagement; and maintenance plans and execution.

“Last year’s keynote was very well received by attendees,” said Rob Swan, director of sales for Canadian Fabricating & Welding. “The landscape at the company is so dynamic, and they have such an interesting story to tell. We’re thrilled they’ve agreed to join us this year and share some further insights and best practices.”

The MME shows are one-day tabletop events that provide an ideal opportunity to engage with follow manufacturers and suppliers in an intimate setting. They are co-located with the Design Engineering Expo (DEX).
