Sensor provides optical seam tracking for arc and laser welding

Scansonic has introduced the TH6D-Advanced optical seam sensor, offering 25-μm resolution and scalable pattern recognition algorithms. The sensor is suitable for use in automated welding with arc or laser and other processes requiring reliable guidance along a defined geometry.
The sensor projects three lines onto the edge to be machined. These lines refract at the edge and pass on information about the seam position, gap dimension, and edge offset at the joint to the control system, as well as correction data for the orientation and positioning of the tool. In this way, the unit enables dynamic correction of the tool center point in real time.
