Sharp-grained abrasives handle carbon steel, nickel alloys

Saint-Gobain Abrasives has introduced Norton RazorStar fiber discs, quick-change discs, and belts featuring shaped ceramic grain for tough grinding applications. The combination of sharp grains and a large grinding aid helps reduce heat generation for cool cutting and long life on such materials as carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and nickel alloys.
The grain’s patented geometry and tough microstructure help it stay sharp, as new cutting points are exposed when the grain fractures, the company reports. A high concentration of grains oriented in an upright position allows for aggressive cutting.
